Getting yourself fit does not have to mean going to the gym and putting yourself through strenuous routines. You can become fitter in many other different ways, all of which will be more fun.
Family Commercial Break Workouts
On average, a commercial break lasts 2 to 2.5 minutes. When you and the family are sitting watching TV take it in turns at the start of each one to shout out an exercise that everyone does for that commercial break. This could be squats, running on the spot or maybe lunges.
After a couple of hours of doing this, the whole family will have had about half an hour of exercise. It is great to get everyone else involved, but if they really do not want to take part, just get them to shout out for the exercises they want you to do.
Dancing is a brilliant way to get fit, whether that is around the house to music you are playing or on a night out at a local club. You will use muscles in dancing that does not get much other use, and it can be a great way to tone your body.
Ballet is becoming more popular these days with new classes spring up all over the US. This is because it is fantastic for your posture and balance and a great form of exercise if you want something that is not high impact.
This is a job most of us dislike and only do it because we have to. Perhaps if you realize that vacuuming, sweeping and flitting about your house cleaning can help to make you fitter, you might not dislike it quite so much.
You might also find that your home is cleaner than ever.
There are many fitness devices on the market, from things such as treadmills you can set up in your own home to a portable fitness device that you can use anywhere. The portable ones sometimes come with an app for your smartphone that will show you how to use the device to its best advantage.
10,000 Steps A Day
This might seem an awful lot but you have to remember that the tracker on your smartphone records every step you take and you do not realize how many that can be just walking from room to room in your house or around the supermarket. It seems that the biggest disadvantage of a plan like this is when people reach the 10,000 they do not do anymore, so some people are actually exercising less.
Don’t let that happen to you. You can set your target at whatever level you want and if you find you reach it by late afternoon every day, you need to increase it even more.
Just look back at some of the games your parents and their parents used to play and it is no wonder they were fitter generations. Things like skipping ropes and hula hoops were out on every street. These are not just games for kids. There is no reason why you cannot play such things as jump ropes, twister horseshoes or with frisbees and have great fun at the same time. Get your kids to play and let them see how children were occupied before the digital age.
Take Longer Walks With Your Dog
Taking your dog for a walk is a great exercise for you and for your furry friend. Try adding just a bit to the length of your dog walk each day, and eventually, you will both feel the benefit and perhaps discover areas you have not seen before.
Don’t Give Up
It is very easy for an exercise routine to become boring and then you give up on it. If this happens to you, introduce some other ways of ensuring you get all the exercise you need but make sure you have some fun with them. You are far more likely to continue with something if you enjoy it, and as long as you have the weather, the more you can do outside the better. The fresh air you inhale during exercise, even just walking, expands your lungs and sends more oxygen to your brain. This will help to make you mentally fitter as well as physically.
Every time you find you are flagging with anything you do for fitness, change it to something else that is more fun. You do not have to do the same things all the time, there is a huge variety of ways to ensure you are as physically fit as possible, without giving up hours of your time.
