* Update: We broke up but this is still one of my most viewed blog post, which is why I’m not going to be deleting it.
Couple Shoot – My Love
My heart is so full right now. I’m seriously on cloud nine. Never thought that my boyfriend would ever agree to do a couples shoot with me. He asked me what I wanted for Valentine’s Day and I said, “can we do a shoot together?” Haha. This has been on my wishlist for such a long time and we finally did it. My boyfriend kept saying, “I’m not photogenic” or “I hate getting my photos taken”.
Prior to the couple shoot, I told him that it was going to take an hour and the photographer shot us in 20 minutes! He even said “That’s it? That wasn’t so bad! I thought it was gonna be an hour”. Haha, a little tip to all my readers who’s significant other is iffy about taking photos: violate their expectations so they won’t be upset afterward!
His conditions for taking the photos were:
First, no dressing up and second, no indoors. He hates dressing up which was totally fine with me since I felt like if we were to dress up, it would look too romantic and I honestly wouldn’t want my family and friends to think we were getting engaged or anything! Keeping it casual with a white shirt and denim bottoms was the best way to go. Secondly, I’m a huge fan of indoors shoots, but my apartment is so ugly and his was as well. I honestly don’t know what his reasoning for wanting to shoot outdoors was, but it worked out in the end! We took these photos at Nichols Park in Gilbert, Arizona.
Maybe I’ll do a post on how to plan for a couples shoot! Comment down below if you’d be interested.
How My Boyfriend and I Met
I adore telling this story: how my boyfriend and I met. The beginning of our relationship was so fun (not saying it’s not fun anymore, but the chase/honeymoon phase was real). I actually met him at my current job; I started working at the nail salon back in January 2017. We both worked separate days and I seldom saw him. During that time, I had a different boyfriend, so I wasn’t really paying attention to him. It wasn’t until during the summer when I started working more that I started seeing him more frequently. He never really interested me. In the beginning, I strongly disliked him. He was (and still is) very cocky and there was this one incident where I had requested a day off. This was when I downright hated him.
Cue scenario:
Demi: Hi, can I have this Tuesday off?
Boy: Why?
Demi: Umm. I have an internship meeting.
Boy: Who do you intern for?
Demi: Umm. Well, I have two internships and one of them is for a social media specialist and the other is a photographer.
Boy: Oh, okay. What about Saturday? Why aren’t you working Saturday?
Demi: Uhhh…
Boy: Can you work Saturday?
Demi: Uhhh… (I was debating whether or not to go to this comic convention on Saturday but he just put me on the spot).
Boy: How about this, I’m gonna put you down for Saturday, okay?
Demi: Ok.
My boyfriend probably remembered this differently, but to me, I felt like I was being interrogated. My boss never questions me why or what I’m doing (my boss is pretty rad if you ask me). After the whole conversation, I remember telling my aunt that I didn’t like him and she laughed and said: “oh, he was probably trying to get to know you and make small talk”. Ya girl did NOT want to have a small talk with that boy. Since then, I did not like him. There was also another incident when the salon wasn’t busy and he would say things like “nhanh lên,” which means hurry up in Vietnamese. I remember feeling so attacked by him because the salon was not busy at all and there was no need for me to rush! If only the nail salon had an HR, I would have reported him. Haha.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks later.
There was one time when I stayed after work since two of my coworkers were doing nails for each other. My boyfriend was working up front and he was closing up the register. One of my coworkers asked, “Which one would you choose? Him or (another guy that also worked in the nail salon)?” Of course, I said “NEITHER. I rather die alone.” The other coworker said, “I think you should go for the other guy, he’s a lot nicer and has that ‘cool vibe’ going on.” The worker who asked me the question said, “Really? I think you should go for him. He’s really smart and he’s going to pharmacy school.”
After I heard pharmacy school, I said something along the lines of “oh, that’s cool but I don’t think the pharmaceutical field is the best route to go considering how saturated it is right now.” In other words, I was trying to indirectly talk bad about him because I knew he could hear me from the front desk. Haha. Then it hit me! I’m gonna be a mean manipulative person and get that boy to be wrapped around my finger and then leave him. (Yes, I know. I’m a very mean person with malicious intentions.) The next time I was at work, I asked one of my coworkers for his Snapchat and we started talking.
When he accepted my friend request…
He sent a snap that said “lol. how did you get my Snapchat?” I replied back saying “From (my boss/his aunt).” I found out that he was in the army and one of my friends was also in the army. I would ask my friend questions like “what do I say to make it seem like I know a lot about the military?” Because I basically knew nothing.
After talking for a while, he said something I didn’t quite catch so I said: “em không hiểu” which means I don’t understand in Vietnamese. He snapped back saying “omg you know Vietnamese, so cute!” I remember thinking to myself, this is too easy. This boy is way too easy. HAHA. Fast forward to the upcoming Sunday, we went out to go get ice cream and play chess after he got off of work. Of course, I won.
That’s basically how we met.
I worked for his aunt/uncle at the nail salon. There was one time when I invited him to come hang out with my friends and me, and when he was on his way, we decided to go somewhere else so he basically had to reroute his direction. When he arrived, all my friends were about to head out and instead of staying longer with him, I told him he can go home too. So basically he drove 40 minutes just to see me for 2 minutes. He proposed the idea to go see a movie but I rejected him. Fast forward to maybe 3 weeks of messing around with him, every time we hung out, he would always ask me to be his girlfriend but I would tell him no. My excuse was “I barely know you” or “I need more time to think”.
Another favorite story of mine is the first time he tried to kiss me. We went to go see a movie together and after the movie, I was up against my car talking to him. He placed his arm on my car and above my shoulder (similar to the second picture below this excerpt). He leaned in for a kiss and I freaked out and pushed him away. Then he asked: “Why won’t you kiss me!?” Hahaha, a week later, he told me that after that night, he googled what does it mean if the girl you like won’t kiss you back. Long story short, I fell in love with how hard he tried being with me. Haha.
Feel free to share how you and your significant other met! I love hearing stories like this.
Charlotte Fears Photography
I love these photos that Charlotte took of us and while I want to go into full details of how much I adore my boyfriend, I won’t. However, let’s talk about how much I love Charlotte! Haha, thank you so much, Charlotte for taking our photos. These photos honestly make my heart melt and I seriously can’t get enough of looking at them. If anyone in Arizona want to get their couples photo taken, I definitely recommend her!
P.S. I think for our one year anniversary, I’m gonna ask him if we can do another shoot. You can never have way too many photos! Haha.
* Note:
I didn’t mention his name because he has so many ‘names’. For example, he has his English name, which HIS friends call him. He also has his Vietnamese name, which I have trouble pronouncing. Lastly, he has his Vietnamese nickname, which is what MY friends and I call him. So sometimes I don’t know which name I should refer to him as… Vincent, Trung, Sa? I’ll just call him my boyfriend. I’m dehumanizing him by stripping away his name. HAHAH.
