You have probably seen or heard of this somewhere, either in a movie or in another blog post. A perfect example would be where an interviewer asking the interviewee “what is your weakness?” and the interviewee answers “I’m a perfectionist” lol.
I’m a Perfectionist
I am not lying if I tell you all that my weakness is being a perfectionist. Sometimes, I feel like I focus too much on the small details that I can’t see or understand the overall big picture. This can lead to not getting anything done. A perfect example of this would be my blog. I focus too much on trying to find the perfect title for each blog post. I don’t want a title that’s too vague, but I also don’t want a clickbait title. How in the world do I find the median between those too!
We’ve all probably heard this in your writing classes, but you know how you’re technically supposed to have that ‘incubation’ phase? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, there is a 4 step to a creative process. The first step is preparation. The second step is incubation. Then, the third step is illumination. Finally, the last step is verification.
The step I have trouble the most is incubation. I write my piece, take some time away from it, then revisit it at a later day.
Incubation Phase
Oftentimes when I come back to revisit the blog post, I completely hate it. I’m so hung up on the little details that by the time I decide to publish it, it becomes irrelevant. For example, my boob job journey! I was so focused on how I wanted to execute the content and how to write it that by the time I went to publish my ‘one-week post-op’, it had already been a MONTH since the surgery.
It’s hard planning out blog posts and switching your mind into writing. I was listening to this podcast and it mentioned that you get the most creative when you’re bored. Honestly, that is so true. I’m currently in my Intro to Applied Statistics class right now as I’m writing this, lol.
One of my goals I would like to work on is this obsession. The obsession with being a perfectionist. I find that this fixation with little details set me back so much that I don’t ever publish anything! I want to make a goal of publishing at least twice a week.
Expect More Nonsense from Demi
With that being said, I would love to post more and perhaps make this a series? I know some bloggers have “coffee talk with xyz” or something like that! I would hate to say I’ll commit to something similar but not go through with it.
However, we will see where this goes! I’d love to one day just be able to sit down, say whatever is on my mind, and then hit publish.

So good to read this! Ahaha, I’m a perfectionist too 🙂 Most of my friends (even boyfriend) get annoyed with that sometimes. But I always feel things should be better, I could do better. There is no end to it. On one side it’s good because it pushes me to do more, on another not so much, because probably I am less satisfied than other people 🙂 And I know your feeling with blog posts, I always overthink what I share (on Instagram, Youtube), but now I’m practicing to just let it go :))
Kisses,
Bri
