Tyler and I have been going to the drive-in movie theater a lot and I’m curious why it’s not a thing anymore! The last time I went to a drive-in movie was when I was 11 and my family watched The Game Plan. When the last operating drive-in movie theater closed in Tucson, I was so devastated. However, I’m glad that they’re making a comeback now.
Drive-In Movie Are Perfect For Date Night!
Being able to watch a movie from the comfort of your own car is so nice. Additionally, you can bring as many snacks as you want. Tyler and I will usually stop by Walmart or Target before the showing and grab a few items. The first time we went, we brought pizza to eat in the car, haha. Also, it’s great that we can talk throughout the movie. I love talking and asking things like, “Is that even possible?” Yes, I’m one of those people that asks if you can do that in real life.
We’ve seen The Joker through Talking Stick Fields, and Footloose and Grease through Pop Up Events.
Frequently Asked Questions
I mentioned going to the drive-in movie theater on my Instagram and I noticed that I received a few same questions. I figured it would be easier to address everything on a blog post.
Can you still go to a drive-in movie theater if it’s raining?
Yes! One of the nights we were going was the start of the monsoon season. It was raining and super windy. The only thing that was an interference was the radio frequency. However, it wasn’t a big deal since the static noise only came on once for barely 10 seconds.
How much do the drive-in movies cost?
It varies. I noticed that some of these venues will charge by either the car or the number of people inside the vehicle. It’ll cost anywhere from $15-$30. It’s still cheaper than going to an actual movie theater and besides, movie theaters are closed in Arizona right now.
Do you leave your car running at the drive-in movie?
You don’t have to. Tyler and I did because we needed the air conditioning on. Also, both of our cars will automatically turn off the media controller (the GPS, radio, etc) if the engine isn’t on. If you don’t want your car running, I suggest bringing a portable boombox. The car’s battery might die if you don’t have the engine on.
Be sure to check with your car!
