I’ve never carved a pumpkin before so when our neighbors Mark and Lauren were hosting a pumpkin carving party, I was so excited! I woke up yesterday ecstatic and couldn’t wait until 7 pm when we walked over to their apartment. They live on the same floor in our apartment complex so it was super nice walking back to our apartment after the party. They also went to my game night for my birthday!
We love our neighbors – I hope that when Tyler and I get a townhome, we’ll all still be friends! Although, I get very awkward when I’m in the elevator with one of them. Elevator rides are tricky – it’s too short for a conversation but too long for small talk… Does anyone feel this way or is it just me? It’s probably all in my head, haha.
Anyway, Tyler and I bought our pumpkins at Trader Joe’s. I wanted to go to an actual pumpkin patch but like always, I waited until the last minute to get our pumpkins.
The Pumpkin Reveal
For my pumpkin, I decided to copy a photo off of Pinterest – I felt really proud of myself for being able to execute it, especially since it was my first time. It’s a quirky face with some 3D shading and dimension. I found that the teeth were the hardest to carve out.
You can’t really see the bottom teeth and one of the top teeth fell out, oops. I really like the nose though – I find it charming!
Tyler also copied a photo off of Pinterest and he was really impressed with himself. He decided to do a silhouette of a cat in honor of Henry with a few stars in the background. Although, his stars look more like big holes. If you ask me, they look like polka dots!
I didn’t realize how much of an arm workout it is cutting, carving, and scoping. It was so much fun and everyone’s pumpkins turned out great! I wish I took photos of all the pumpkins, but I always forget. Haha, this happens every single time – I’ll have so much fun doing something, forget to take photos, and wishing I took photos the next morning. Oh well.
Board Games
After carving the pumpkins, we all sat down and played some board games. We played Cards Against Humanity and our other neighbor, Adam, had a few too much to drink. I couldn’t stop laughing whenever it was his turn to read the cards – he has such a very assertive deep voice. I can’t really explain it, so you will have to take my words for it.
To make it more intense, we decided to play a drinking game after Cards Against Humanity. Without going too much into details, you basically assign drinks to people. Every opportunity that I had to assign drinks, I assigned it to Adam. Luckily he lived right across the apartment from Mark and Lauren so his walk home wasn’t bad.
Afterward, we played Sequence. Sequence is definitely not a good game to play when everyone is drunk. It did turn out pretty funny though. We played one game with 3 teams of two. Tyler was my partner but he was so drunk that it was basically me who had to carry the team.
It was so much fun and I can’t wait for the next get-together!
