Skincare Routine for Your Early 20s With Dry Skin
I am not going to lie. I have never really paid much attention to my skin until recently when I met my boyfriend. He never left the house without sunscreen. One time, he told me that I needed to take better care of myself otherwise I’m gonna older than him! He bought me my very first sunscreen and that was the embark of my skincare journey. This is my skincare routine for the early 20s with dry skin.
Morning Routine
In my morning, I would cleanse my face with my Dermalogica Precleanse Cleanser. I got this from beauty school and I love the smell of it. You use it on your face dry and then add water to rinse it off. Then after my Precleanse Cleanser, I would go in with my favorite serum. I use the Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil. Two or three drops of this will do the work. You don’t want to use too much otherwise your face will feel sticky! Afterward, I begin my sunscreen. I use the Olay sunscreen for sensitive skin and mix it with my Dermalogical 50 SPF booster for that extra protection since I live in the warm and sunny Arizona.
Night Routine
So for my night routine, I have two. One is for if I’m wearing makeup that day and the other one is not. If I’m not wearing makeup, I don’t want to use so much cleanser on my face otherwise it’ll dry out my skin. I like to go in with my Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and then top it off with my Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil and my moisturizer from Dermalogica.
If I am wearing makeup, I’ll take more precautions with my skin to ensure that all makeup is removed. I’ll first start off with my Dermalogica Precleanse Cleanser to remove any makeup. Then I will go in with my Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel. Next, I will go in with my Blume Skin wipes. I like going in with these wipes because when I look at the wipes, it’s clear to see that there’s no makeup left over. Usually, my skin feels really dry after using those three products, so I like to use my Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. This serum is extremely moisturizing and heavy, so I only like to use it at night.
Facials
Okay, I’m basically boujee at this point. I try to go for a facial at least once a month. A while back, I used to get microdermabrasion but it’s actually really bad for those who have broken capillaries! I have some broken capillaries on my lower face and I hate them. (Also, how did I not remember this from beauty school!) Nonetheless, being the broke college student I am, I go to beauty schools to get my facials done!
I will either mix it up with a deep pore facial, a dermaplaning facial, or a hydrating facial since I have fairly dry skin. I try not to do peels since my boyfriend, who’s in pharmacy school, doesn’t believe in chemical peels. He talks like he knows everything, so I personally stay away from them for his sake. Microneedling is something I’m trying to get into. It’s a bit pricey so I usually go roughly every two-three months, if budget permits, haha. When you’re in your 20s, you begin to lose collagen each year! I will do everything in my power to prevent that as much as possible. The beauty school I go to is Penrose Academy for my microneedling, and then Avalon for my other facial needs.
This is my routine:
- First month: Microneedling
- Second month: Any hydrating facial
- Third month: Any exfoliating facial (dermaplaning or deep poor cleanse)
- Repeat
That’s all for my skincare routine! I try to keep my skin glowing and it’s better to start investing in it now than to invest in it when it’s too late. What are some of your favorite beauty secrets?
Pssst! Don’t know what dermaplaning is? I have a blog post on it here!
