2021 was a rough year for me. It was a lot of ups and a lot of downs. I did a lot of self-reflecting and realized that there were a lot of things I didn’t like about myself, but luckily, it’s not permanent and I can always change myself to be a better person.
Taking a Break
My blog has been on the back burner this whole year. I started a new job in March 2021, which took up a lot of my time and brainpower. I broke up with my then-boyfriend in June 2021 and had to do a lot of self-reflecting.
To say it was hard is an understatement.
I told one of my closest friends that I’ve been so disappointed with how little time I’ve given to my blog. She told me that it was a break – 2021, I took a break from blogging to focus on my personal life. “Everyone needs a break sometimes,” she said.
So, I took a break, and now I’m back! The break was much needed, and I can finally focus on blogging without feeling so type of weird obligation. I think for me, sometimes as a blogger and a public person, I feel like I must address every big and small changes that happen in my life.
As I get older, I feel like the less I want to share about my life on the internet. The more I share, the wider I leave the door for people who don’t know me to share their opinions about me.
It happens more often than you think (at least for me). Sometimes, I feel like people assume that they know me because they follow me on social media. This happens with acquaintances, distant friends, and coworkers. It can be a bit overwhelming at first, but I feel like now, it’s just part of the gig!
What’s Been on My Mind
Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do long-term with my life. Do I want to work in Corporate America and live the 9-5 lifestyle? Or is there something more for me out there?
I’ve always toyed with the idea of doing my blog full-time, but I always know it wasn’t ever going to be scalable. I like to compare it to driving for Uber or Lyft – in order to make money, you have to drive. For me to make money, I would have to do brand partnerships. Perhaps some of these days I will invest more time into doing Amazon affiliate links or something similar to that nature.
I’m not sure what exactly I want to do long-term for my career, but I hope whatever the future has in store for me is fun.
